The heroes of D-Day.
Among our greatest generation, not all heroes came home to acclaim.
Most of them returned to their everyday lives.
Some stories were largely left unsung.
Nobody has done more to preserve the legacy of our greatest generation than the man who coined the phrase.
So joining us via video to introduce the story of a previously unsung band of heroes, narrated by Terry Crews,
please welcome legendary NBC Nightly News anchor, Tom Brokaw.
75 years ago, as the war uproar expanded, so did the need for talented men and women.
New challenges presented new opportunities for Americans of all backgrounds to prove their worth, regardless of race, creed, or gender.
Among these Americans was a group of women who, when called upon, accepted the challenge.
Once the job was done, they returned home, forgotten and unsung.
Today, the few who remain are finally receiving their dues.
On behalf of their sisters-in-arms, this is the story of the women of the 688 Central Postal Directory Battalion.
